Dow Canada’s Product Safety Commitment

Chemicals bring tremendous value to society by making our drinking water cleaner, our food safer and our clothing more durable. Still, while we find solutions to human problems, we must also assure than chemicals do not present undue risks to human health or the environment.

Dow Canada has a solid record of managing any risks associated with our products, reinforced by our recent successful Responsible Care® re-verification in March of 2007. This independent audit demonstrated that our Canadian sites had met the standards set by Responsible Care Codes of Practice for product and workplace safety, and continuous improvement in environmental performance.

We share common ground with all levels of government regarding the goal of managing the risks associated with the manufacturing, transportation, use and safe disposal of chemicals. A robust regulatory regime is an integral part in achieving this goal, with industry playing a key role to ensure the safe management of chemicals. Dow has made a global commitment to make safety assessments for its products publicly accessible by 2015, addressing relevant gaps in hazard and exposure information.

We have expanded comprehensive risk assessment programs to evaluate security around transportation of raw materials and products. Dow works closely with its logistics partners to assess the effectiveness of their safety and security programs. Our Fort Saskatchewan and Prentiss, Alberta sites have won six consecutive Canadian Pacific (CP) Railway Safe Shippers Awards for our record in rail transportation safety.
