Dow Canada in Prentiss: Community Advisory Panel
Dow believes our corporate decision making process is made better by involving the community.
We have organized Community Advisory Panels (CAPs) in many of our plant communities, including Prentiss, Alberta, where our joint venture partner MEGlobal™ is our CAP co-sponsor.
The goal of each CAP is to build trust, cooperation and mutual respect between the company and the community. A two-way dialogue is facilitated between site management and local stakeholders. Action is taken based on feedback from the CAP about our site and community activities. Based on this feedback, concerns are solved before they become issues.
CAP members are community residents that represent a broad cross-section of local interests, including health, education, civic, youth and Dow’s “near neighbours.” Each meeting involves a guest speaker, standing agenda items and an Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) performance update.
Topics addressed by the Prentiss CAP in 2006-2007 included:
- Dow’s Prentiss social responsibility efforts, including donations and other contributions to local quality of life;
- Site water usage and treatment at Prentiss site;
- The site’s June 2007 Responsible Care® re-verification;
- Plant noise levels and turnaround activities.
