Dow Canada in Prentiss: Community Safety and Emergency Response

Dow is committed to a “Vision of Zero”—zero incidents, injuries, illnesses and zero environmental harm. Every Dow employee is accountable for achieving this goal. If the Vision of Zero is achieved, we will have returned home safely each night and protected the health and well-being of the communities surrounding our Prentiss site.

As part of its 2015 Sustainability Goals, Dow has placed a focus on product safety disclosure. By 2015, Dow will make publicly accessible safety assessments for its products globally, addressing relevant gaps in hazard and exposure information.

Dow emergency response teams are amongst the best in our industry, ready to respond to any incident related to product or worker safety. We cooperate with other local industry partners in working to address risks that are part of our operations.

Rail transportation safety is a priority for our Prentiss site, since our products reach our customers via railcar. Close to 15,000 railcars leave the site each year from the MEGlobal production facilities alone. Our Prentiss site has been honored for seven consecutive years by Canadian Pacific Railway for our safe record in managing and transporting regulated hazardous materials. The Prentiss rail yard is one of the largest private facilities in North America holding more than 700 railcars.

We have expanded comprehensive risk assessment programs to evaluate security around transportation of raw materials and products. Dow works closely with its logistics partners to assess the effectiveness of their safety and security programs.
