The Dow Sarnia Legacy Project

As Dow Canada prepares to close its Sarnia manufacturing operations, we are reminded of our close relationship with the Sarnia community. It has been 65 years since The Dow Chemical Company established its first Canadian manufacturing site in Sarnia.

To honour our relationship with the Sarnia community, on behalf of our employees and retirees, we announced The Dow Sarnia Legacy Project. The Legacy Project will be a permanent, public undertaking valued between $500,000 and $ 1 million—our gift to the community for its years of support.

A Legacy Project was selected in January 2008. Please read the news release to find out more.

The Dow Sarnia Legacy Project Steering Committee selected the top five proposals for further consideration by Dow Sarnia and Corporate legacy panels. Assisting with the initial review of legacy project proposals is a steering committee consisting of Dow employees and a cross-section of local citizens, including:

  • Sheryl Bovay, Past Chair, Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce, and Manager, Lambton Mall;
  • Gord Catterson, Dow Canada Retiree, Sarnia;
  • Lloyd Fennell, Director, Corporate Services, City of Sarnia;
  • Don Fysh, Director of Operations, Dow Canada, Sarnia;
  • Jeff Johnston, President, Dow Canada;
  • Cindy Kohut, Finance Analyst, Dow Canada, Sarnia;
  • Mimi Long, Public Affairs Leader, Eastern Canada, Dow Canada;
  • Scott McKay, Past Chair, Young Professionals of Sarnia-Lambton, and Chartered Accountant, Manager, Hazlitt Steeves Harris LLP;
  • Cal Moore, Operator, Dow Canada, Sarnia;
  • Cindy Newman, Director, North American Public Affairs, Dow Corporate; and
  • Cliff Scott, Member, Dow Sarnia Community Advisory Panel, and Registered Insurance Broker, Gamble Insurance.
